Gap Year Program

Throughout the year, World Ocean School offers 6-12 month gap year internships aboard the National Historic Landmark schooner Roseway.Interns are trained in tall ship sailing and crewing, educating youth in the various programs offered by the World Ocean School, serving as ambassadors at tall ship events, sharing the joy of Roseway with adults and families, and participating in the daily and annual maintenance of the ship.

If you desire academic credit while completeing your gap year program, we are happy to coordinate with your university or school to provide the necessary reports, assessments, and collaboarative materials.

  • Program Length: 6-12 months (May – October / November – April)
  • Program Location: Winter 2010 – St. Croix, U.S.V.I. / Summer 2010 – Great Lakes
  • Program Provisions: Accommodation and meals are provided aboard Roseway as well as crew uniform shirts. Once accepted into the program, you will be sent a list of items to bring.
  • Requirements: Age 18 or older, current passport, ability to live and work in a drug-free, alcohol-free, and smoke-free environment.
