BINcA

Students from Boston International Newcomers Academy spend 10–14 days aboard Denis Sullivan, sailing from New York City to coastal Maine as active crew. Through full immersion, the program supports English language development while building confidence, leadership, and a sense of belonging among recently immigrated youth. Now in its fourth year, the voyage exposes students to new places, cultures, and perspectives while helping them see themselves as capable leaders.

Ashley Hall

Students from Ashley Hall embark on a multi-day offshore voyage from St. Croix to Charleston, sailing as crew aboard Denis Sullivan. Through watch standing, navigation, and shared responsibility at sea, students experience personal growth and self-discovery while becoming fully integrated members of the crew. Now in our eighth program with Ashley Hall, this partnership continues to empower young women to build confidence, leadership, and resilience in a challenging environment.

Gifft Hill

8th–12th graders from Gifft Hill School spend five days sailing through the Caribbean as part of the ship’s working crew. As an end-of-year experience, students take the helm, set sails, and build seamanship skills while living and working together aboard. Since 2015, this long-standing partnership has provided a meaningful and memorable culmination to the school year.

Landmark College

Students from Landmark College spend five days sailing through the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico aboard Denis Sullivan. Through hands-on navigation, sail handling, and shared responsibility at sea, the program connects outdoor experience with physical and mental well-being. Over seven voyages together, this partnership has provided students with a meaningful environment to build confidence, independence, and resilience.

BCYF

Students from Boston Centers for Youth & Families participate in three-hour day programs aboard Denis Sullivan. These short-format sails introduce participants to basic seamanship, teamwork, and the experience of being on the water.

St. Croix Day Programs

Since 2006, students in St. Croix participate in multi-day or single-day sailing programs aboard Denis Sullivan, working with the same class across a structured, hands-on curriculum. Through rotating modules in seamanship, navigation, and marine science, they apply STEM concepts while taking on active crew roles aboard the ship.

Vertex

Over the last five years, high school summer interns from Vertex Pharmaceuticals take part in a full-day program split between sailing aboard Denis Sullivan and land-based activities. Working in teams, participants rotate between hands-on sailing, team building and collaborative challenges.

Inly School

Middle school students from Inly School join a three-day sailing program aboard Denis Sullivan, operating as part of the crew. As an end-of-year experience, the program challenges students to step outside their comfort zones while building self-sufficiency, teamwork, and resilience through hands-on, real-world learning. Across five programs, it has become a dynamic way for students to actively engage with their environment and advocate for themselves.

Sail Portsmouth

Students from Sail Portsmouth join a multi-day voyage that culminates in the Parade of Sail at the Portsmouth Tall Ship Festival, operating as crew along the way. The program connects New Hampshire students directly to the ocean while building seamanship skills, resilience, and confidence through challenge and teamwork. Since 2016, this partnership has provided a consistent pathway for students to engage with the maritime world.
