Inly School (Day 2)

Cape Cod, MA

During our stay on the Dennis Sullivan we climbed aloft, did night watch, and learned how to steer and manage a boat. We start off our day with doing daily chores, such as washing the deck and preparing breakfast. On our first day, we got to enjoy a lunch of delicious chili and chips, cooked by the engineer Ken, and which we helped to set up on deck. At night, we have these duties called anchor watch. This includes watching to make sure that the anchor is secured, checking our coordinates, and having mid-rats, which are midnight rations or treats. Today we got to pass through the Cape Cod Canal in order to get to our final destination which is Boston. We started sailing at Newport, RI and have made a huge progress in our journey to our destination. During the crossing in the canal, we got to see seals and rare birds. We also climbed up aloft and laid out on the bow sprit which took strength, endurance, and bravery. Once we made it aloft to the top of the mast, we got to see a better view of our surroundings along with the boat. Our favorite part of the bow sprit was being able to be loose and free and enjoy the ocean.
