Helene Laurito
Hi! My name is Helene! I grew up in Philadelphia with a fascination for the natural world mostly bugs and animals. I recently graduated from Sterling College VT studying ecology and sustainability studies along with experimental education. There I was able to really study watersheds and learned all about the Chesapeake Bay watershed. That is what led me to the Kalmar Nyckel, the tall ship of Delaware! Last winter I was able to do winter maintenance and then in the spring I was able to move into sailing crew. This was the best experience of my life. I fell in love with sailing and wanted to do more.
This summer I was able to work as a director at Awbury Arboretum teaching ecology and survival skills. With my love for water and dedication to education and stewardship of the land and sea, the obvious next move was to combine both. That is what brought me to World Ocean School! I can’t wait to instill the love for the environment and the world for the next generation! I’m excited to see what adventures come about on Denis Sullivan!
