Meet The Team

Captain Sean Flynn

Captain Sean Flynn began his sailing journey on the lakes of Arkansas, where he developed a deep love for the water at a young age. After earning a B.S. in Environmental Science, he bought a sailboat in Sausalito, Ca and made the leap into sailing full-time.

His first Tall Ship experience was as a volunteer Deckhand/ Educator on S/V Seaward. Since then, Sean has held positions as Captain, Mate, Engineer, Deckhand and Educator on a wide range of vessels with the focus to empower and inspire growth in young people through seamanship, mentorship, and a passion for exploration.

He holds a USCG 200 GRT Near Coastal license and has sailed extensively along the U.S. East and West Coasts, the Canadian Maritimes, the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean. In 2025, he crossed the Atlantic aboard the SSV Geronimo and later captained the historic schooner When and If from Key West to the Great Lakes for multiple Tall Ship Festivals.

While in Wisconsin, Sean was deeply moved by the community’s stories and love for the Denis Sullivan. He’s honored to help carry and build that legacy as part of World Ocean School.

Sean lives in the Berkshire Mountains of western Massachusetts with his wife Elizabeth and their 12-year-old chocolate lab, Faith. When he’s not at sea, you’ll find him hiking, enjoying the outdoors, and cheering on his LSU Tigers—Geaux Tigers!
