Winter Ambassador Voyage: Day 6

Jan 1, 2026:

Happy New Year, everyone! Today was a full day of sailing, lessons, working, food, and watching the helm. Breakfast today was a quite bountiful one consisting of Muffins, bagels, (B)oatmeal, yogurt, and eggs. We then did Deckwash where we sprayed down the deck, deck boxes, and small boats before hauling back anchor. Once again an absolute pain in our backs, which was luckily not fouled. We set 7 sails including one that is not set often; the Raffee (not Raafy to the one sitting on her tan colored couch in St. Croix). A flag was created for our watch for an upcoming event later tonight, being the Schooner Olympics where all the watches (A, B, and The Champions of the C) compete against each other in a mixture of events. Unfortunately, we had the misfortune of being placed on lunch cleanup with many a oily dish and a collective hatred of post-cheese-oil-hands before resting, having some snacks, and- did you know about the Zimmerman Telegram? Anyway, Turtle. Captain Jill gave us a presentation on Sea Turtles that inhabit the waters around us, including describing the somewhat horrifying digestive system of the Leatherback Sea Turtle (Look up the image of a Leatherback’s throat at your own risk). Today marks the seventh day for most of us of swimming in the Caribbean Sea, with seven days of no Instagram Reels, No SHower, No Car, No energy drinks. Out of everything we will miss most of this trip is the beach (Not dealing with sand), midnight rats, and the friends we made along the way. We learned many a thing over this trip, including knots, parts of a boat, sail handling, and of course, the people on board. Happy New Year, this has been the Champions of the C, signing off.
