Landmark College: Day 1

January 8, 2026:

We woke up at The Freds hotel at 07:30am where we had breakfast between 08:00 and 09:40. After breakfast we headed out to the cafe No Bones right next to the boat where we saw a black and white cat with an all black kitten playing in traffic. Once we arrived at the boat we fire-lined our bags on board and played Human Knot, which we (watch A) completed with a significant margin of time before the other watches. Once on board, we completed the given checklist, which included tasks such as making our bunks, getting a mug, and turning in our phones. We prepped sail so we could get off the dock, where we learned coiling skills. After getting off the dock, we set sail, learning about the different parts of the sail as well as the processes of raising and lowering sail on our way towards Fredrickstead. Underway we went over drills: man overboard, fire, and abandon ship. We also took a ship's tour and talked about the expectations while aboard. As the sun set, we arrived once again in Fredrickstead, and we anchored. During dinner, the crew caught a sea centipede and a great amberjack. We’re looking forward to swimming, more of Anne’s great cooking, ocean showers, and a change in weather. Signing off A Watch
