Sail Portsmouth Day One

July 17

Good Afternoon Family, Friends, Fans,

Written by A Watch: Grace, Lilly, Ayva, Harry, James, and Lucian. Deck hands: Keira and Nona.

After we drove to Boston in the bus, the whole crew of the Denis Sullivan circled up in a park. We played some icebreaker games, and A Watch beat everyone else in human knot, by being the first group to get untangeled. Because we won human knot, we got to eat pizza first. After we ate pizza, the whole crew went onto the boat and our awesome deck hands gave us a safety tour. After the safety tour, while Denis Sullivan refueled, we played two truths and a lie. After we refueled, we sailed out of Boston harbor to just off of Long Island in the Boston Harbor Islands. A Watch was on active watch during the trip to Long Island, with half of us helping to steer the helm and half of us doing bow watch. The crewmates working on the helm learned the  Beaufort scale and how to identify clouds with a cloud chart. The clouds we identified were Cirrostratus and Cirrus clouds. After we anchored off of Long Island, we were taught how to tie a flying bowline. This was pretty tricky but we did it. After we learned how to tie the flying bowline, we had an amazing dinner made by our lovely cook, Anne. We also learned how to clean the dishes from our meal. After we did all this, we did our evening chore, which was writing this blog you are reading. A Watch is excited to do our first day of actually sailing tomorrow, and get underway with our voyage.
