Williams-Mystic Day 1
October 4, 2026
As we headed out of mystic, it was super fun to see everyone waving at us, and Tom (?), the WM director, even ran down the dock in a shark costume which was quite entertaining. Unfortunately, this was quickly followed by some waves that rocked the boat quite a lot, and many people begin to feel a little sick. But then, they started showing us how to haul ropes and check the ship such that, even though many of us aren't still aren't feeling great, many started feeling better and having fun. I even got the steer the boat during night watch, which was absolutely epic, albeit a little anticlimactic because it turns out its really just about making little micro adjustments so that two lines align. But overall very fun!

Today was def a roller coaster! From the rain in the morning —> sea sickness + first watch —> now (~22:30) there were a lot of emotions! But once all the difficult stuff got out of the way, we ate some delicious yummy tasty wonderful delightful enchiladas. That was my highlight of the day, and looking forward to the week + many more delicious meals!

I started off the day strong with air fryer chicken nuggets for breakfast in Mystic, and then went out to sea. I was pretty sick at first, but very happy I didn't have to enjoy the chicken nuggets twice… I really enjoyed my day watch though! Especially logging engine info. Successful day!

I really enjoyed my conversation with Sofia as we shared lookout duty from the quarter deck. and hearing about the history of the Denis Sullivan and all the love that was put in to build her <3
