Williams-Mystic Day 5
October 8, 2026
Good morning fellow earthlings! Yesterday we hauled up a 500 pound anchor then set the main and stays'l.
A PAUSE IN OUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAM TO PET BARTHOLAMEW (the banana slug)
We sang shanties all day long: while we were hauling the anchor, while we were supposed to be on watch, while we were on watch, and at the stars. A fun fave was cap's version of pink pony club REWRITTEN as "aft quarter deck" #helmgirlautumn. Cap also taught us about the celestial g! Aldeberon, Capella, Castor, Pollux, Prosion, Sirius, Rigel, Bellatrix, and Beatlejuice. We also learned about and presented an almanac on cloud formation.

From the dawn watch:
Good morning, Chesapeake Bay! After a successful drift through the evening - and notably some very special star gazing - Alpha watch took the deck and 0400, motorsailing under the main and stays’l at a steady 4.1 kts. We commenced to work on our almanac, a student driven presentation about engineering and sailor tattoos, to be shared after we drop anchor this afternoon. Today, we will participate in a round of the classic Schooner Olympics, competing lightheartedly in teams of three to stretch our newfound skills. Our last evening shall be student with a sparkling swizzle before final anchor watches.
As a deckhand during this Williams-Mystic program, I speak for the crew when I say that we are so impressed with the sailors who’ve joined us on this trip into Chesapeake Bay. Maybe we all rest again.
Farewell from the quarterdeck!
