Some of our days started around 12pm when most of the students arrived at the dock, including Mason. Some had already spent the night on board, who in the morning had breakfast and were given the opportunity to get acquainted with the ship and crew. During this time, they assisted with the monthly safety check, ensuring all of the flotation devices were in working order, along with the immersion suits. When the others arrived on the dock, we were split into watches and played a game called human knot(still not untangled), after which we were allowed onto the deck. Once on deck A watch (US!) set up lunch, which was chili with rice and salad. After lunch we left from the dock and sailed out of the harbor, and began orientation to the boat, which included a tour and a small portion of safety touring. When we anchored for the day we did a swimming test, where it was incredibly cold and salty. Sophia ended up with a mouthful of saltwater. She, Vivian, and Wyatt prefer fresh water, who all are from Milwaukee. Everyone who wasn’t actively swimming was playing a game called bippity bippity bop. Wyatt is entirely convinced he saw a ghost ship captained by a man who goes by Jean Le’Stinkfoot sailing in the fog, and is now terrified of sleeping. (Wyatt gave us permission to keep this confession of his) After this we completed the rest of our safety check, learning all of the different procedures during different emergencies. Shortly after we had B watch set up dinner, which consisted of lasagna with salad, and now we are here writing the ships log! Looking forward to sleeping and waking up to tomorrow's events????
