Inly School (Day 2)
May 29th, 2026
This morning, we were woken up by a violin, starting off the day in the most unexpected way possible. After getting up, we headed above deck to do our morning chores and eat breakfast. For breakfast, we had pancakes, eggs, and bacon. After that, we officially began the day, with each watch group going off to complete some morning chores, most of which involved cleaning. After our morning chores, we went over our schedule for the day. Then, after our group had some R&R, we pulled up the anchor and raised the sails on our boat, which took a lot of teamwork because the sails were super heavy and we all needed to be perfectly in unison to pull the sails up successfully. It felt good to work together to complete a difficult task. After all of this, our groups went to the very front of the boat, which is called the bowsprit. There is a cargo net hanging down that we were clipped into and we sat and talked above the crashing waves below. We even saw a shark while we were up there! When we were done with our morning schedule, we took a break and enjoyed a tasty lunch, which consisted of chicken patty sandwiches and salad. After that, we had active duty, which is when we look out for things that could possibly harm the boat, like buoys and other small vessels. Then, we got the boat ready to be docked into the harbor by tying up the fenders to the side of the boat with the knots that we learned in our time on the boat. As Molly says, “The food is so good!” During our time staring at the water we counted Lions Mane Jellyfish. Our final count was around 130 jellyfish! We also had a Man Overboard drill, which includes throwing a plastic buoy over the side and putting the motorboat in to retrieve it. We named the buoy Timmy.
